I've been wowed by students' questions about the real history behind Winterkill and how it relates to Putin's war against Ukraine.

Throughout the book I had the urge to hug Joan even though I'm sure she would have hated it. Loved the novel.
A searingly honest memoir about growing up within a fundamentalist Christian community in the south with an emotionally abusive mother and a brother who was brilliant but damaged. Yancey was raised a racist and he addresses that unflinchingly. Unputdownable.
You wouldn't think a novel set in a funeral home would be uplifting but this one absolutely is. I love Levy's ability to be vulnerable for her readers.
Such a good book but it did make me weep. For fans of Uneducated, The Glass Castle.
Original and immersive, I loved this narrative of the Vietnamese street urchin who nurtures the foundling. This short novel is strung together in a series of intense vignettes, and the reader is thrust into the lives of an interconnected cast of people to reveal how their lives have been decimated by the vagaries of war.
Did not enjoy this one. Flat characters, phoned in plot.
A quick and entertaining read that should help many people become more aware of how they've arrived at their own decisions and attitudes and how they can logically dissect that process so they're less susceptible to bullshit.
👍Gabriele Goldstone deserves a wide readership. She writes about aspects of 20th century history that few novelists touch upon and she does it compellingly and with thorough research. In Tainted Amber, Goldstone deftly plunges the reader into a past when Hitler's ideas seemed new and fresh. A timely read. 👍
What an intriguing thriller this is! Set during the first wave of the pandemic, It's about two people who meet by chance (or do they?) on the days leading up to the pandemic, and by the end of it, one of them is dead. This one kept me guessing all the way through. A great read!
What a great page-turner! I knew I wanted to read this as soon as I heard the premise, and the author did not disappoint. A well-crafted intersection of true-to-life characters and breathless action. Brava! Best wishes to TJ Newman for a long and successful career in writing. She's off to a brilliant start.
Michele Weinstat Miller writes a thriller with characters (and a dog!) who are so achingly real that you can't help but want to give them a hug. I loved the textured and nuanced circumstances of each person in this novel and how they all fit together so explosively. A page-turner, a thriller, but much more than that. This is an intelligent novel with heart that will entertain but it will also make you think! 👍
Just started this book and I love it already! They're using a dyslexic-friendly font, which makes it super easy to read and the author is using short sentences and urgent immediacy that works with the story but also makes it super accessible for challenged readers.
My author copies were shipped in April but I still don't have them. Argh. I want to hold this book, smell it, hug it. Who stole my books?!
Halfway through this thriller right now and I'm on the edge of my seat. Gotta say though, I could strangle a few of the characters ....
Reading this right now and enjoying!
